Saints Augustine and Basil

Saints Augustine (354-430) and Basil (330-379) decorate the church with their God-given wisdom and eloquence. St. Augustine represents the Western fathers of the Church, and St. Basil, the East. They both represent a more urban monasticism. St. Basil is sometimes called the “father of Eastern monasticism.”
